Mosaic is a medium that
suits my profile—various pieces ultimately coming together.
With a degree in biology and fine arts, a master in environmental
studies, and certification in elementary education—my occupation
is graphic design and my passion is mosaic.
With its ancient story and solid form, mosaic can perpetuate the
illusion of permanence like no other art form. I play with this
illusion, magnifying the hair-thin lines of ephemeral subjects—veins
of a leaf or butterfly wings—then filling them with grout.
I will never exhaust the metaphors possible with mosaic, through
color, sheen and texture, nor tire of the embedded memories that
recycled tesserae evoke. I am thrilled to make art with ceramics
from the second-hand market or that would otherwise end up in the
landfill. I find peace working with the pieces. And the meditative
process reveals to me the meaning of each project; the themes of
Fear, Impermanence and Empathy reoccur in my work.
